Gansbaai
8 - 12 September 2010

This workshop will be held in one of the most idyllic areas of the Western Cape, in the heart of the Overberg region. We will be staying in de Kelders area, which is right next to the walker bay nature reserve, a perfect white beach stretching between Gansbaai and Hermanus. This beach has some of the most amazing seascape potential along the western cape coastline;including caves, eroded sandstone formations, dunes, flowers and opal blue waters. We are also only a 20-minute drive from the most scenic farmlands in the Caledon area that stretch on to the Riviersonderend Mountains. The workshop is in the peak flower time of the Canola/Rape lands. Combined with puffy clouds and blue skies these make for simple, but amazing landscape photos. Over 4 nights we will have 8 twilight shoots, so you're guaranteed to go home with stunning photos.

All the skills necessary for digitally processing and enhancing landscape photos will be covered, but the workshop will focus on making sure that you get a great image to start with. Things like composition and light will be the main points. Everything from equipment, to shooting techniques and ideal shooting times will be covered.

During the course of the day we will work specifically on the images taken on the photo sessions. Post processing of landscapes will also be discussed.

About Hougaard Malan

Landscape photographers are like good wine: They get better with age. Their eyes appreciate and learn to anticipate the subtle nuances of nature, they grow patient in their craft and their results mature into otherworldly scenes, beautifully presented. It takes many years to develop into a truly world class landscape photographer. Indeed it can be said that true Landscape photography is one of the most difficult genres of out door photography.

However, every once in a while, a prodigy arrives; and with it a breath of fresh air. New lines are drawn, undefined scapes are seen and nature is captured in a fresh, new way. This is Hougaard's way. Young, full of energy and a master at his task, Hougaard will lead you through this workshop.Travelling in his "back yard", he will show you secret spots, rock pools, caves and open fields just wanting to be photographed. If needed, you can see more of Hougaard's work on his website here.
